Excerpts of Interview:
It may be called scrapbooking. But these scraps cost a pretty penny.
Think $10 for a packet of metal clips that hold papers and photographs together. One sheet of stickers can cost $6.50 and up.
Then there are detailed embellishments like rub-on designs, tags, ribbons and glitter, which all add up to burn a hole in the hobbyist's pocket. Not to mention the time it takes to painstakingly put it together.
But the number of Singaporeans willing to cough up money for their beloved scrapbookings is increasing.
One such scrapper, as the practitioners are called, is Ms Julie Tan, 37.......Julie Tan has turned her hobby into business selling scrapbooking supplies. Besides selling scrapbooking products online, she also peppers her site with interesting information for new scrappers....says "But the hobby is really is as affordable or as expensive as you want want it to be. It just depends on how embellished you want your layout to be."
There are two main reasons the "ingredients" in scrapbooking are so expensive. All of the supplies currently available in Singapore are imported and therefore consumers pay extra for shipping costs.
The other reason is the archival quality of materials - eveything from clips to stickers has to be acid-free and lignin-free, in order to prevent photos from yellowing due to acid content in normal paper.

Expatriates, students, housewivies, working mothers and tai tais make up the bulk of the scrapbooking crowd.
**********
Even guys scrapbook nowadays.
These include boyfriends whose girlfriends drag them into the hobby, to fathers who take greater enthuisasm in photographing the family with the knowledge that their wives need the visual content for scrapbook pages, says Ms Tan, whose husband encourage her to set up her own online store.
